The fruit from the fig tree is prized for both its medicinal and dietary value. Mithridates, the Greek king of Pontus, heralded figs as restorative, and pointed out that figs “increase the strength of young people, preserve the elderly in better health and make them look younger with fewer wrinkles.” The figs in Soapless Soap are harvested each September in the fig gardens. For thousands of years, this exotic treasure has been used as a remedy to prevent and cure skin diseases.
